Masking Indian Song Class

Masking Indian Song Class

The CULTURED series is a collection of events that centers around New Orleans traditions.  For this series, we are working with a variety of culture bearers from different historic customs in order to facilitate a connection to our BLACK New Orleans culture that goes beyond the surface.

Walter Sandifer III (also known as Spy Boy Walt) of the Beautiful Creole Apache will kick off our CULTURED series by hosting Indian song class.  Walt, an avid drummer, tambourine player and BLACK Masking Indian historian, will teach our audience members the lyrics and meanings of traditional Indian songs.  In turn, our constituents’ understanding of BLACK Masking Indian culture will progress, taking the audience member from mere observer to active participant just in time for the super Sunday celebrations.  Be sure to bring your instruments!
